I’ve always been intrigued by masks and the role they play in mythology, storytelling and celebrations. They are a rare unifying thread found in every culture throughout history. Masks bestow people with the power to change how they are perceived, freeing them to engage with the world in new ways.
From the Ashes explores the interdependence between life and death, flora and fauna. With the uncertain future that our planet faces, we may eventually live in a world where knowledge of many plants and animals is entirely constructed from myths of the past. Stripped down to simple forms and greyscale shapes, these masks celebrate the power of nature.
